Early Years

The Early Years Unit (EYU) at BGE caters for children from age two to five (Crèche to FS2). This distinct stage provides children with a solid foundation on which they can build as they progress through school. Children learn through indoor and outdoor play-based activities that offer a multitude of learning opportunities. The activities that are offered all focus on the ‘Prime Areas’ of the curriculum, ensuring that children are developing their social, communication and physical skills in everything that they do. Children also engage in activities such as music, nature walks, swimming, P.E., ICT, cooking and visiting the library.

Children in the Early Years Unit receive a holistic learning experience through the encouragement of a choice between indoor and outdoor areas. Our beautiful garden has a diverse mixture of activities ranging from traditional play equipment and open spaces, to areas for gardening, mini beast hunting, sensory exploration as well as quiet areas and a reading house. We have an extensive bike track that meanders it’s way through the garden, with parking bays dotted along the way encouraging the children to stop off at the various learning stations. The children might choose to go to the sandpit or the mud kitchen or perhaps test out their road safety skills, following the signs and signals along the way.
