Hockey Action

10th February 2024

Wednesday afternoon saw the local rivalry between Peponi School and BGE play out on the Garden estate pitch.

The U19 girls and boys were playing matches on adjacent pitches offering a smorgasbord of action for the numerous supporters.

Both games were close run affairs, with a good level of needling encounters, the physical battle forming a complementary tone to the skills on display.

The boys went ahead early after a bustling encounter into the D was converted by Sean and continuous forays out on the wing kept the Peponi defence honest and their agile keeper alert, forcing some spectacular saves. Unfortunately the Peponi team were able to exploit when it mattered and managed to sneak in 2 goals to secure the win.

Over on the girls pitch there was some fluid play being shown and the BGE team were up 2 - 0 from a couple of excellently executed short corners. A spirited second half and a goal from Peponi, shook the BGE team back into action and they survived the threat of a comeback with Anika patrolling the D and dismissing the numerous threats as the game played out to a 3 -1 win for BGE.

Excellent sporting attitude was shown by both sides and the rivalry and friendships were reinforced over the course on a exciting afternoon as the sun went down.
