7th June 2022
IB1 Group 4 trip to Malindi/Watamu
24 - 27 May 2022
Day 1 Tuesday 24th
A good start, all students arriving on time and through airport security with minimal fuss.
Slight delay in flight departure but smooth process to arrive at the hotel. After check in and lunch all students engaged fully with the team building activities, including water polo and volleyball. After dinner, an enjoyable evening was spent as a group in the conference room, despite the questionable taste in music!
Day 2 Wednesday 25th
Malindi Marine park today for data collection and snorkelling. Many bags of seawater were gathered, with most arriving back safely for further analysis! The return trip on the boat was hampered by some wind and rain, however this had cleared in time for snorkelling and fish counting. The afternoon was time for more data collection from the various groups and beach clean up. The trip to the “Golden Beach '' was testing for some (4km round trip!) but they all managed in the end! Free time to enjoy the pool before dinner, after which time was dedicated to presentation preparations.
Day 3 Thursday 26th
Watamu required an early start, which once again the students managed with minimal fuss. Watersports, including windsurfing/sailing/kayaking/SUP were enjoyed by all, with some students experiencing Scuba diving for the first time. Final data collection before heading back to the hotel for final presentation prep. Birthday celebration for Salima over dinner before the presentations in the evening…and into the morning!
Day 4 Friday 27th
Slower start after the presentation excitement, breakfast, last swim and then on the bus to the airport. Arrived back in Nairobi in good time, traffic was light and returned to BGE around 3pm.
A really enjoyable trip thanks to all the staff involved, and the positive attitude of the IB students throughout.
