The U15 boys travelled to Hillcrest for the KAISSO Division 1 tournament in a quietly confident mood. The boys were handed a 10-0 walk over in their first game vs French school, so didn’t play until the fifth game. There were no signs of being sat for over an hour as the boys dominated a well fancied Premier team, winning the game 16-11, Jojo with the majority of the points. Our second game vs WNS started in frustrating fashion as the boys struggled to convert easy chances but thanks to 8 fast break points by Nael, we won the game 14-6. Braeside were next and looked to be the biggest threat, sitting in a solid 2-1-2 zone, proving difficult to break down. Some strong big man play by Laurens and Isaac saw BGE take the game 9-8. A dead rubber last pool game against NIS saw the boys lose 3-6 in a game that caused them to refocus and get back to basics. BGE topped the group and played hosts Hillcrest in the semi finals.
A strong start from the boys saw them race to an 8-0 lead with Sheriff, Jojo and Laurens on the scoresheet. The game ended 28-8 to BGE as they ran away with it in the end - Jordan and Judah adding points and outstanding defensive displays by Heri. The final saw the second installment of BGE vs Braeside. Braeside started much stronger, taking a 0-10 lead. The boys regrouped and sorted out their problems with a timeout and scored 5 points through Nael and Jojo just before the half leaving it 5-10 to Braeside. The second half showed character and determination rarely seen at this level as the defence of BGE became impenetrable as the offence clicked and the boys won the game 13-10, crowning them deserved Champions.
