KAISSO U15 Premiership girls hockey tournament

8th March 2022

U15A team
The A team started off in flying form as they overran BGR 3-0 with 2 scores from Oba and one from Maya in well worked plays from far out wide - a favoured tactic for this team who relish in space and opportunity to move with the ball. Manna was brilliant in goals, ordering plays and making sure all opposing attackers were kept at bay. The second pool game against Peponi ended 1-1 with Peponi levelling up in the dying moment despite endless work from Esther and Anika (goalscorer). Despite this pool stage hiccup all was rectified against NIS with a 4-0 win gourtsey of Oba, Maggie (2) and Soilia. With impenetrable defense from Natalie, she was able to set up our attacking forces play after play.

A semi final v Turi was set up with normal time finishing 1-1. A tantalizing encounter that saw Maya score the goal of the day into the top right hand corner - a shot rarely seen at school age hockey. Extra time was not enough to separate the two schools and so we turned to tension filled run-ins to determine the finalist.

This resulted in a bitterly disappointing end to a fantastic day for the A team. A special mention to the team captain Maya who gave a very empowered speech to her younger peers to hold their heads up high and continue to fight another day before turning around to applaud their opponents win.

U15 B team
As the only B team participating in the tournament, this BGE team gave a very promising display against some tough competition. In their first game they held Turi 1-0 with some magnificent saves from Tanya in goals. Natasha was very unlucky not to level it up as she just could not connect with a beautiful pass sent across the D from Virginia, missing it by less than an inch. The second game against Premier was hard fought with the ball being carried from defence into attack regularly. Eventually this pressure was too much for the Premier defence with Natasha slotting in the winning goal. The final pool game against Hillcrest was tough but credit to everyone on the team, they made it incredibly difficult for Hillcrest to finish top of the pool. Overall a very good learning experience for each member of this team.
