U15 boys rugby bow out to Hillcrest

17th June 2017

In the final league fixture of the term the U15 were let down by a couple of factors. The rather unreliable KRFU official never materialised leaving the fixture under threat of becoming void. Fortunately both teams agreed that a staff member could referee and so the match went ahead. Unfortunately some members of the BGE team decided not to turn up and thus the faithful were facing a one man deficit on the pitch as the whistle blew.

Hillcrest were eyeing up a second place in the league and set about looking to achieve this. Passing the ball from touch line to touchline, looking to find a space to exploit. Eventually one was found and the first try was dotted down after 6 minutes. Another followed after 10 minutes and it was looking bleak for the team in yellow.

A sustained period of open play straddled half time and there were opportunities for both sides to score but the stuttering nature of the BGE side stifled any threats to the Hillcrest line. Hillcrest changed tack and began a more structured approach and found a couple of gaps to extend their lead and with 3 minutes to go a clean sheet was avoided as Gekara Mogeni kicked over the only points for the home team from a penalty.

With the Turi 7s fast approaching structure and tenacity are going to be key words at training.
