U15 and U19 hockey match

8th February 2022

U15A girls

The A team had a target of 8 goals and they delivered very close to this. Scoring in quarters 1,2 and 4 the girls managed to remain focused and ruthless in attack despite a clear skill and strength advantage over their opponents. The workrate was high, short corners were utilised and confidence grew as some beautiful and well timed passes came together to create more and more attacking opportunities. Defensively, Natalie, Solia and Esther created an impenetrable barrier to deny any possible Oshwal shot on target. A great overall team performance with a fine yield of goals with the game ending 7-0.

U15 B girls

In their first two quarters the girls played confidently and kept the scoreline to 0-0. In the third quarter, Oshwal increased the pressure - scoring 2 quick successive goals. However, within the last few minutes in the same quarter, Natasha took a lovely hit on goal which increased confidence despite being behind 2-1. In the final quarter, the girls linked their play, with good movements and accurate passing which led to an equalising goal, again from Natasha. This left the match in an 2-2 draw with Grace emerging as the MVP because of her outstanding defending skills.

U15 boys

The boys U15 team showed just how far they have come, transforming from individual players to team players. Beating Oshwal 6 - 1 with a hat trick from Jordan up front sealed an impressive win with great teamwork skills, in particular from JP, Jordan and Maynuel. Sheriff, as always, was magnificent in goal.

U19 girls

On Saturday 5th February, the U19 girls' and boys' hockey team travelled to Peponi school for an 8 a side hockey tournament. The girls showed some early nerves and were unlucky not to score as they drew 0-0 with Peponi and lost 0-1 to Hillcrest in the opening games. Things brightened up in their third game against Greensteds where the girls won 1-0. Determined to take another win, the girls ended their pool matches against Oshwal B with a 3-0 win. As the points were tallied BGE missed out on a semifinal spot by just 1 point. Despite this the team had some good news as Shiro was awarded the MVP of the entire tournament.

U19 boys

On the other side, the BGE boys started well with three draws against Hillcrest Oshwal and Peponi A in the group stages. Adrian and Grace unfortunately could not find the goal mouth with several attempts but were very unlucky. A key focus for future training sessions. A loss to Greensteds in the final pool game meant our points tally was not enough for a semifinal spot. A huge shoutout to Sheriff, our goalkeeper who kept us in the games with some super saves.
