U19 girls and boys hockey triangular match

3rd March 2022

Girls hockey

On Saturday 26th February, the U19 girls hockey team welcomed Hillcrest and Braeburn Gitanga road for a triangular match. The girls were confident and ready to take the day. Their first game against Hillcrest B was incredibly even, each team giving their all and working hard for each other. BGE ended their first half of 15 minutes with a 2-1 lead. The girls dominated the remaining game time adding 2 more goals, sealing the opening game with a 4-2 win.

It was a very tight game against Hillcrest A but the girls were able to attack with width and accurate passing, getting behind the defence and zipping the ball into the D which resulted in their second win with a scoreline of 3-1.

The final game was tough against BGR. At the beginning of the game, there were very few scoring chances as defenders from both teams performed superbly. However, our BGE girls were able to break the defence in the second half and scored 2, leaving them with a 2-1 win.

Overall, the girls' performance was outstanding. Special mention goes to Shiro, who was the MVP and Jippie who converted some great scores.

Boys hockey

The U19 boys welcomed BGR and Hillcrest schools for a triangular match at BGE. The boys were confident and determined to give a good account of themselves in all of their matches although luck was not on their side. To begin, the boys played BGR A and lost 0-1. Later they met Hillcrest who dominated the game - putting too much pressure on our defensive lines which led to another loss of 0-1. Finally the boys played the BGR B team with a much better approach but a lack of luck to successfully convert any chances created. The BGR B team on the other hand took advantage of some careless mistakes in our defence which gave Gitanga a 1-0 win.
