Friday KS2 Gardening

This half term we had fun learning about how plants grow and how to take care of them. In weeks 1 and 2, we bought some cabbage, alyssum, pumpkin and sweet pea seeds from the shop, and planted them in egg trays to develop. We watered them with paper cups that we poked holes in.

In week 3 we sprouted beans by placing them in damp tissue inside clear cups; they grew roots in about 1 week and leaves in about 2 weeks. We took some of these home to show our parents and planted the rest in soil, in large cups, to continue growing.

In weeks 4 and 5 we bought strawberries, oranges and watermelons, ate the fruit and kept the seeds, which we planted into little cardboard pots that we made by folding toilet paper rolls. These are successfully sprouting in an improvised greenhouse (a large covered plastic tray). We also collected seeds from dried up marigolds outside of the Year 2 area and planted them in the garden today. Let’s see what happens to them over the next two weeks!

Great work, Team!
