U11 Girls
A huge well done to the U11 girls hockey team, who represented BGE extremely well at their tournament. Finishing top of their group, beating Hillcrest, Peponi, Kenton and Brookhouse Karen. Unfortunately, they lost the semi finals in a penalty shoot out to The Banda.
Special mention goes to Mary who was voted 'most valuable player' of the tournament, an amazing and well deserved achievement!
U13 Girls
The U13 girls hockey team began the day with a 0-0 draw against Peponi A. With only 2 chances each in the 12 minute game it showed just how evenly matched the teams were.
Our second game against a physical Turi side proved a big job for Grace in defence while Claudia's hard work on the left wing gave a number of attacking opportunities through to Elena but nothing to threaten the scoreboard. The game ended 0-0 with Grace being voted MVP.
Pembroke took an early lead in our third game, putting us on the back foot. Our set plays on short and long corners did not go to plan here, leaving us scoreless. Our final game placed us up against Hillcrest. The girls were determined to not end the day without scoring a goal and so worked diligently throughout to squeeze out a 1-1 draw to end the day.
A huge learning experience for the girls after such a long break from competitive sport.
