IB Orientation Day
The IB1 Orientation Day usually takes place during Week 3 at BGE, our aims and objectives are to affirm messages from the IB Pre-Induction, check-in with students and confirm new skills. The focus is on preparing the students for the course, helping them adopt good habits, answer their questions, remind them of the approaches to the IB programme and their learning, together with encouraging collaboration.
IB1 Orientation - Friday 17th September - BGE Noma Moyo
IB1 DP and CP students at Braeburn Garden Estate were treated to an Orientation Day to ensure they gained a better understaning of the demands of the IB programmes and the way the different parts complement each other.
Coordinators Ms. Bayerl (DP) and Ms. Gichuhi (CP) and Ms. Sheikh (CAS) organised a series of lectures and interactive sessions in the morning covering important topics such as the: Mission Statement and the Learner Profile and how to apply it and how to use Managebac. We learnt what academic honesty and integrity means, why it is essential, and how to cite.
We also videos on the importance of sleep and learning and were introduced to a range of study skills (including how to take and organise our notes) from successful IB students. It's clear now to us that it's pointlessness of cramming and we have to be organised!
Students were separated into DP and CP specific groups to learn about the Core elements of each of the programmes.
To emphasise the importance of collaboration and the shared learning experience, we spent the afternoon participating in a series of team building activities, organised by Ms. O'Regan and her team, these were linked to the Learner Profile and the AtLs.
Overall, we all had a lot of fun and were left feeling confident in the knowledge that we know what to expect and how to succeed in the IB.
