STEAM Day.

22nd September 2021

On Monday 20th September 2021, BGE Primary celebrated inter-house STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) day. In EYU and KS1 they looked at stories for inspiration. Using the Billy Goats Gruff, they made a new bridge for the goats to cross as the Troll broke the old one. For our challenge in KS2, we were asked by KENHA  (Kenya National Highway Authority) to create a bridge from Mombasa to the south coast.

Our bridges were made from recyclable materials brought into school by the students. The bridges had to hold tons of vehicles and to be smooth and stable. We were divided into groups of 4-5 and were set to the challenge. This was to test our teamwork skills and see if we could make a strong bridge. Even though we were not with our house mates, we earned points based on our teamwork.

After we were done with the building, we tested if the bridges were smooth with a toy car. Then we added weights to see whether it was strong enough.

Overall we all enjoyed it, got to learn new skills and learn about bridges.
